Books To Read This Winter

I thought I'd put together a little post about all the books I think you should definitely read throughout Winter, there's definitely a few of my all time favourite books on here and because I'm just that nice I even popped a little bit about the books below!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

A Court of Thorns Roses - Feyre's survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill - the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price...

The Charm Bracelet - Many years ago she was sent one with just a single charm attached. The charms have been appearing ever since, often at challenging times, as if her mysterious benefactor knows exactly when she needs a little magic in her life. As a result, Holly's bracelet is her most prized possession. So when she finds someone else's charm bracelet, she feels she has to try to reunite it with its owner. Even if the only clues she has to follow are the charms themselves. On a search that will take her all over New York City at Christmas, Holly becomes ever more determined to piece together the details of this other charmed life. But what she doesn't know is that her quest may also lead her somewhere she never, ever expected...

Let It Snow - An ill-timed storm on Christmas Eve buries the residents of Gracetown under multiple feet of snow and causes quite a bit of chaos. One brave soul ventures out into the storm from her stranded train and sets off a chain of events that will change quite a few lives. Over the next three days one girl takes a risky shortcut with an adorable stranger, three friends set out to win a race to the Waffle House (and the hash brown spoils), and the fate of a teacup pig falls into the hands of a lovesick barista.

I Heart Christmas - Angela’s planning her very own fairytale of New York...

• Enormous Christmas tree
• Eggnog
• Eccentric British traditions
• Gorgeous man

But Santa’s throwing her a few curveballs – new job (as if it’s not mental enough already), new baby-craze from her best friend Jenny, and Alex determined they should grow up and settle down. Once friends start turning up uninvited on her doorstep (and leading her astray), can Angela really have a merry little Christmas? So much for happy holidays – something’s got to give...

What Light - Sierra's family runs a Christmas tree farm in Oregon - it's an idyllic place for a girl to grow up, except that every year they have to pack up and move to California to set up their Christmas tree lot for the season. So Sierra lives two lives: her life in Oregon and her life at Christmas. And leaving one always means missing the other. Until this particular Christmas, when Sierra meets Caleb, and one life begins to eclipse the other...

The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily - Dash and Lily have been dating for nearly a year, but when Lily’s beloved grandfather falls ill, the repercussions take their toll on everyone. Even though they are still together, somehow the magic has gone out of their relationship and it’s clear that Lily has fallen out of love with life. Action must be taken! Dash teams up with Lily’s brother and a host of their friends, who have just twelve days to get Lily’s groove back in time for Christmas. A warm, wintry read that is guaranteed to be a favourite Christmas book for many years to come.

Christmas Cupcakes

Because it's so close to Christmas - EEEEEEK - I decided to pop up a little baking post of a few cupcakes I've made recently. I didn't actually use a full on cupcake recipe for 12 cakes for this post I used this one here for two cupcakes but I manged to make 3 and then re did the recipe again to make another 3 because I didn't want to have 12 cupcakes lying around going 'eat me, eat me'...

So here's what you'll need for these cute cakes!

Christmas Log Cupcakes

Ingredients:
1 Egg White
2 Tablespoons Granulated Sugar (I used Caster Sugar)
2 Tablespoons Butter
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
1 1/2 tablespoons milk
1/4 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
Icing Sugar
Water
Flakes
Silver Cupcake Cases

Instructions:
1. Mix the butter and sugar together in an electric mixer until light and fluffy
2. Add in the Egg White, Flour, Baking Powder and Vanilla Extract and mix together until all combined
3. Add in a dash of milk just so the mixture is slightly more smooth
4. Spoon into cupcake cases and pop into the oven until golden brown on the top or until the skewer comes out clean.
5. Leave cakes until completely cooled and make the Icing.
6. For the Icing you'll need Icing Sugar and Water
7. Pour some Icing Sugar into a bowl and add a tiny bit of water at a time, this is the best method for me as I find it goes too runny if too much water is added at once so I add a tiny bit at a time until I think the icing is thick enough
8. Spread onto the Cupcakes
9. Break the flakes into halves and pop onto the middle of the cake, sprinkle with Icing Sugar to finish!

Marshmallow Snowmen Cupcakes
(Mine went a lil bit wrong but now he's a smirking melting snowman)

Ingredients:
1 Egg White
2 Tablespoons Granulated Sugar (I used Caster Sugar)
2 Tablespoons Butter
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
1 1/2 tablespoons milk
1/4 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
White Marshmallows
Chocolate Piping Icing
Silver Cupcake Case

9. Pop on a White marshmallow wherever you want the snowman to be and then just use a bit of brown or black icing and draw on the face!

Angel & Cookies Box Review

So as you know (possibly) I mainly eat gluten free, especially when it comes to cakes & biscuits and I got the chance to review this sample box from Angels & Cookies*. These cookies are Wheat, Gluten, Egg & Milk free so it's a life saver if you suffer an allergy from any of these.

In the Sample Box I was given: 3 Cookies in the flavours: Chocolate Fudge Cookie Dough, Ginger & Spice and Chocolate Chip, along with Animal Crackers and a tub of Cookie Dough.

I really enjoyed the Chocolate Fudge Cookie along with the Chocolate Chip one but I actually didn't like the Ginger & Spice one too much, Ginger and Spice really aren't my thing so I'd avoid those ones but I definitely enjoyed the other two, they were so tasty!

The animal crackers are also adorable, they also come on the same flavours as the other 3, again, I wasn't a total fan of these but they were nice but I don't think I'd personally purchase them.
The Cookie Dough Tub you receive is really easy to use, it's simple instructions, you literally grab the cookie dough, roll it into ball shapes, pop onto a baking tray and put them into the oven for the said time on the side!

Overall I really think this Angel & Cookies Box is a really good thing if you suffer with allergies and you want to curb those cravings! (Trust me, I know the feeling! But these are definitely worth a go!

Gluten Free Chocolate Biscuits

Recently I'd been having such a craving for a proper chocolate biscuit but being GF it's a bit more difficult to pop to the shop and grab some, so I had a search around and found a recipe here ( I changed it up a bit) and decided to have a go at baking them and they were DELICIOUS. I absolutely loved them, they were exactly what I wanted and they were so nice with a glass of milk. I didn't leave mine in until they were completely hard I took them out whilst they were still slightly softer so the inside was crumbly and a bit like a cake, seriously so good. These are the perfect chocolate biscuits to make for around Christmas time, they're super easy to make and take hardly any time!

What You'll Need:
100g Butter (I used Dairy Free Vitalite)
50g Caster Sugar
100g Self Raising Flour (I used Gluten Free Plain Flour - risky I know - but they still turned out good)
1 Tablespoon Cocoa Powder (I used a Cadburys one that didn't contain Milk)

Instructions:

1. Mix the Sugar & Butter together until light and fluffy

2. Stir in Flour and Cocoa Powder

3. Put into a non pre heated oven and watch until baked (I found they turned out more biscuit wise without pre heating the oven and really keeping an eye on them, because when I made a second batch when the oven was really hot, they spread out completely and turned into a cookie biscuit! Which was still good but it wasn't what I was going for!)

4. Leave to cool, and then eat!

This is such a simple recipe that doesn't take up much of your time at all, I also think these could be a cute little Christmas Gift if someone you know is Gluten Free!

Movies To Watch This December

I raided my DVD stash - which is ridiculously big I might add - and grabbed all of my favourite movies to watch throughout December, there's nothing better than getting into the Christmas spirit by watching a few Festive movies, they're the perfect movies to snuggle up and watch with biscuits and a mug of milk, it's literally the best way to relax. Obviously Elf has to be in my top picks, this is literally such a good Christmas Movie and I'm sure you've all watched it by now but if not WATCH IT. You'll feel so festive afterwards! Another of my all time favourite Christmas movies are The Santa Clause ones, these are the movies I constantly watch throughout December (and the rest of the year) I feel SO Christmassy after watching these, I just bloody love them. Definitely my favourite Christmas movies for sure. I also popped in Harry Potter because these movies actually remind me of Christmas, especially the first 2, I love re-watching those throughout December. you can't go wrong with a bit of Harry Potter. Oh also if you have the Sky channel: Christmas 24, watch it, it's my favourite channel this time of year!!

What's your all time favourite Christmas movie?

Gift Guide: Beauty & Books Edition

Another Gift Guide from me today! I've included a few more of my favourite beauty products, the NYX - London Matte Cream really reminds me of MAC's - Velvet Teddy and I've seen so many people talking about these, they'd definitely make a good stocking filler.

Next up is a few products from Burts Bees* these cute little packages are perfect for this time of year, especially because my lips go so dry in the Winter and I know how good Burts Bees are, these are going to keep my lips so hydrated. In the Burts Bees Naturally Nourishing* gift set is a lip balm and a hand cream which is also the perfect added addition because you can never have enough hand creams for the Winter time, you need to keep everything hydrated in this weather. IT'S SO COLD. In the Bit of Burts* gift set you get a lip balm and a little tub of cuticle cream, cute!

Lastly I added a few books that I think would make some really good presents, especially Girl Online: Going Solo - I'm yet to read this one but I know it's such a well loved series so you can't go wrong with this one.

Top Winter Lip Products + Swatches

For today's post I picked out a few of my favourite lip products that I love to wear in December. I picked a range of them and obviously there's going to be a bunch of red related lip products in here because you cannot go wrong with a red lip in December, it just screams Christmas! I also picked out a few nude shades including Velvet Teddy because this one goes with every makeup look possible, it looks nice with a smokey eye, it looks nice with a minimal makeup look, it just looks nice and it's the perfect brown toned nude for the Winter.

Gift Guide: Beauty Edition

I raided mine and my sisters (itsthebluebow's) beauty stash recently to put together an affordable Beauty Gift Guide. There's various products I included into this gift guide because they're products I absolutely love and definitely think they'd make a great stocking filler. You definitely can't go wrong with MAC's Velvet Teddy, it's a firm favourite of mine and I definitely think it'd suit anybody, especially if they love a good nude lipstick.

As for the Body Fantasies* sprays, these are such cute and affordable sprays, they also smell amazing and they're the perfect size to be able to fit into your handbag and the best bit is the bottles are plastic so you don't have to worry about them smashing!

I obviously couldn't do a gift guide without including Sleek's Solstice Highlight palette because it's the most beautiful highlighter EVER. I also added in another highlighter from I Heart Makeup which is also such a pretty highlight but it's in a cute heart shaped box which just makes it an even better stocking filler.

November Favourites

I'll start with a few beauty favourites I've been really enjoying using last month and that's another Palette from Sleek which is their All Night Long palette, this palette is full of neutral shades and it's such a good palette, it's got all the shades in that you'd to go from an everyday look to a nighttime look, as always with Sleek, their shadows are super pigmented and so worth the money.

Next up is a lip gloss from Rimmel and this might have been in another favourites but I can't remember when so I'm putting it in here anyway, it's in the shade Purr Glossy Cat which is such a pretty nude lip gloss shade and I love a smokey eye and a nude lip so this is the perfect lip gloss for that.

Now for a few Randoms! One channel I've been particularly loving throughout November is of course: Christmas 24! This channel shows the best and most cutest Christmas movies ever, I absolutely love watching them and it's definitely the best time of year when Christmas 24 is back!

Lastly is books and they're the first two books from the Harry Potter series! I've been rereading these over the last few weeks and I've been thoroughly enjoying them.

My Autumn/Winter Makeup Picks

I decided to have a nose through my beauty stash and picked out a bunch of makeup that I thought best suited Autumn & Winter! I picked out a few of my favourite A/W Lipsticks that I tend to wear this time of year and I picked out a perfect nude shade too that you cannot go wrong with. The lipstick shades I picked were Media from MAC, which is a dark berry shade that has a satin finish, Glastonberry from Charlotte Tilbury which is another darker berry shade which I'm sure you've all heard of and that's a matte finish and lastly I picked out MAC'S Velvet Teddy for the nude option, you cannot go wrong with it's a matte finish but it's perfect for everyday makeup and it just goes with any makeup look, definitely a go to of mine.

I picked out two of Sleeks Palettes that have the perfect shades in for this time of year, they're full of the most prettiest golden shades along with some purple and neutral shades. I've swatched them as well and the swatches below are from the Enchanted Forest Palette and you can find the swatches for the Vintage Romance Palette here

The Foundation I picked out is - yeah, you guessed it - MAC's Studio Fix Foundation, I don't use any other foundation base these days, this is my go to foundation and I absolutely love it.

For Highlight it's obviously going to be my new favourite highlight palette from Sleek which is the Solstice one. I recently reviewed that one here and that post also includes swatches if you want to see how pretty it is, trust me it's BEAUTIFUL.

So there's a few of my top A/W makeup picks, what are you top A/W products?

Gluten Free Rocky Rice Bars

Gluten Free Snacks, Gluten Free Treats, Rocky Rice Bars, Rocky Rice, GF,

Being Gluten Free is both good (for my tummy) and bad because you can never really find tasty snacks that you can actually eat but that's where Rocky Rice* come in, they're a Gluten Free brand that have released some GF Rice Cake Bars with a bit of chocolate on them. They come in 3 different flavours: Strawberry, Milk Chocolate and Orange.

These bars are also all under 100 calories which is so good for an extra little snack during the day, sometimes if I don't fancy much I'll just have a small bar for breakfast to start my day and they're super tasty! I think my favourite has to be the Orange, it just tastes like a Terry's Chocolate Orange but in a way just a little more healthier! But then saying that the Strawberry reminds me of Strawberry Creme Chocolate you'd get in a box of Roses at Christmas!

You can purchase these in 5 packs in various places here. The only problem is I'm yet to find them in a store near me but you can buy them online in packs of 7 for £12.50 here. I'm definitely going to be placing an order after I've finished them!

November Book Haul

Book Haul, YA, Young Adult Novels, Contemporary, Book Blogger, Book Blog, The Sun is Also a Star, ACOMAF, ACOTAR, The Geography of You and Me, November 9, The Charm Bracelet, Dorothy Must Die, Bookworm, Books, November Book Haul

It seems that a monthly book haul here on my blog is going to become a regular occurrence because someone *cough* me *cough* can't seem to stop looking at all the pretty books and buying more and more and more books that someone cannot even read because someone's TBR pile is sky high BUT that doesn't mean that someone is going to stop buying them. Clearly.

So yes, I did, I bought more books and I regret NOTHING. You may have seen a few of my other hauls where I bought A Court of Thorns and Roses and A Court of Mist and Fury and you might be sat there like didn't they appear in another book haul like a month ago? Well you'd be correct however it's different because I bought the hardback copies because they're too pretty and I loved the stories and I'm obsessed with them. Sue me. ALSO Rhysand babe where you at????  A few of the other books I purchased were:

Sleek Solstice Highlight Palette + Swatches

Sleek, Sleek Highlight Palette, Sleek Highlighter, Sleek Solstice Highlighter, Sleek Makeup, Sleek Solstice Palette Swatches
Sleek, Sleek Highlight Palette, Sleek Highlighter, Sleek Solstice Highlighter, Sleek Makeup, Sleek Solstice Palette Swatches

Oh hello there welcome to a post all about the new love of my life and the best highlighting palette I've ever come across (so far anyway). Let's just start by saying I've become a liddddlleeeeee bit obsessed with highlight, it's definitely my favourite makeup item and the one part I look forward to the most when I'm doing my makeup.

I'd been eyeing up the Solstice Highlight Palette from Sleek for months after seeing Sophie Foster use it on her channel and I just immediately knew that I had to get my hands on it and I'm so glad I did. IT'S BEAUTIFUL. The Sleek Palette itself is retailed at £9.99 but I actually got it on a 2 for £12 offer with their Enchanted Forest Palette but I would happily pay £10 for it because this product is insane! The pigmentation on all of the highlights is so good it could be a high-end product, I mean look at those swatches SO BEAUTIFUL.

The shades that are the ones I use the most are the pink one and the golden bronze one (the two on the right handside) you don't need much at all for it to show on your cheekbones and I just love how they look, they just give you a bit more to the natural highlight that you have, I definitely don't go without highlight because it's just too pretty to not use! There's also a new Cleopatra one from Sleek that I now also want to get my hands on because highlight is just the best thing EVER.

Top 5 Barry M Autumn Nail Polish

Nail Polish is the one thing I wear more of in the Autumn and Winter because I love all of the colours that are available, I love the whole burnt orange shades, mustard and of course: Black. You can't go wrong with a black nail polish and that's the shade I find myself wearing the most, I picked out my Top 5 nail polishes from Barry M because I find them so affordable and I love the different range of finishes and shades they offer, they also last up to about 3 days on my nails which I find really good for the price of them. The shades I love this time of year are:

Makeup of the Day

Hello hello helloooooooooo. Today I decided to share with you my makeup of the day (minus a picture of me wearing it because no one wants to see that) this makeup I've been wearing daily (not necessarily daily like once a week - it's my go to though honest) my base is none other than MAC's Studio Fix Foundation. The SF is my go to foundation throughout the year and that's mainly because every other one I try doesn't seem to match my pale skintone at all but the SF is perfect for me.
Next up is eyeshadow and my love for the Sleek palettes is just increasing and that's the main eyeshadows I use these days, they're super pigmented for the price and they have such a range of pretty shades, the palette I use for an everyday look is the All Night Long Palette (which I may or may not have pinched from my sister oops). To go along with the eyeshadow I always line my waterline as I love the finishing look it has and I really think it helps my eyes stand out and the eyeliner I use for that is the Kohl Waterproof Liner from Rimmel.

Another product from Sleek that I can't go without using when doing my makeup is their Solstice Highlight Palette - this palette is BEAUTIFUL - I absolutely love it and I'm such a fan of highlight, but this one is the best palette I've used so far, definitely recommend it.

For mascara my ultimate favourite combination is the Maybelline Lash Sensational and the Benefit Roller Lash - these two together do wonders for my eyelashes, they really lengthen them and make them stand out which is exactly what I'm after.

Next up is brows! Although I hate filling in my brows I do like how it makes them look, they just look so much better, I use the Brow This Way from Rimmel, it's a small little thing but it does last me quite a while and the product doesn't budge all day.

Lastly is the lip! The lip product I've been using the most is the Nudist shade from Soap and Glory, I won't say too much on this one as I've reviewed it recently with swatches - here - but this is the perfect nude shade for everyday.

So that's pretty much all I use for my makeup, what is one of you go to makeup products?

Christmas Party Planning

Hello hello hellloooooo. As you've gathered from the title I am indeed starting my Christmas posts, it's cold, it's November, there's Christmas movies on the TV, therefore this is allowed. I'll be posting everything from Gift Guides, Baking and maybe even a books you should read this Winter/Christmas, so keep your beady little eyes out for those! To start off my Christmas posts I've done a 'Christmas Party Planning' wishlist. It features everything, you need to get your table looking as festive and as cool as ever therefore beating every other Christmas party you've been too, come on, you know we all want to throw the best parties!

To start off you need a table, and probably a big one but then you might not necessarily have the room for a big one, well then how about one that extends into a big table but one that also looks like your average dining table when it's folded back down? That's where Fishpools come in, they have a range of the perfect dining tables ranging from small to ones that extend, they're also in a variety of shades and materials, there's even some glass ones, HOW COOL. I don't think I'd ever be good with a glass table, I'm very clumsy and I'd feel as though I'd break it, however, I also do spill things a lot and it would be easy to clean. Ah choices. Anyway I had a browse around on their dining tables and chose the extending table to feature on my post as I thought it was the perfect size especially considering you can extend it to put all of your glorious food and cute Christmas table decorations on. To go with the table I chose a red runner which is the cutest thing, it'd look so festive over the top of a simple plain white table cloth. I also picked out some Copper items as I know how much bloggers are loving the Copper lately, I mean, come on it is pretty and also would go perfectly to begin your festive table.

I picked out a few other plates and glasses from John Lewis which I thought looked extra Christmassy (is that even a word???) I also picked out a Chocolate Fountain, because come on it's Christmas, what more of an excuse do you need to have some chocolate covered Strawberries or Marshmallows? You don't, after all, Calories don't count at Christmas. I also picked out a Crepe maker, I just think Crepes are a total Christmas thing, I think it's because they're featured in little Christmas markets so Crepes instantly make me think: Christmas.

Lastly, I just added some cute little decorations such as the Candelabra and I picked out the Silver Stag mainly because it reminds me of Harry Potter and then it's just a combination of two of my favourite things. Harry Potter and Christmas. I definitely need to get me some Stag decorations,
So that's it for my first Christmas related post, I hope you're looking forward for the many more to come!

Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight! (Too early???)

Soap and Glory Mother Pucker Gloss Stick

If you've followed me for a while you'll know how I'm constantly complaining about the fact I didn't really have a nude lip that I really liked however, now thanks to Soap and Glory I can now officially say that I do! Hoorah! It's the Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in the shade Nudist. I always saw so much about these that whilst they were on a buy one get one half price I decided to just give them a go, I ended up purchasing two of the same shades because I didn't really want any of the other shades and I'm so glad I did because I ended up really loving it. It's the perfect nude shade for everyday and it's nice and glossy so it doesn't dry out your lips either, I normally stick to a full on matte lip but I do love the finish of the Mother Pucker Gloss Stick, it's like a lip gloss but it doesn't have the sticky feeling that lip glosses usually do. This lip product is the one I've been reaching for lately when I've bothered to do my makeup. It does actually last on the lips quite a while, I'd say it lasts about 4-5 hours possibly, it does fade if you're drinking and eating but apart from that I found it really good. You don't get a lot of product but I think for the price it actually isn't too bad and I'll be for sure repurchasing when I've run out because this is my go to lip product at the moment and it looks amazing with a smokey eye.

Currently Wanting - November

Oh hold up what do we have here? Yep, yet another currently wanting because there's too many things and not enough money for them all. It's Autumn, I love Autumn, and Autumn means the baggiest jumpers with skinny jeans or leggings and a pair of boots or a pair of fluffy socks when you're indoors, so naturally I've been scouring the internet to see what items have been catching my eye and there's a few! (However I've already done a new look shop so maybe I'll do a haul and share with you what I went ahead and purchased) As well as clothes, BOOKS, books are the legit must have for the Autumn and winter (and every other season) but what's better than getting completely lost in the book whilst the rain is hitting the window and the fire is crackling? NOTHING.
